Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional or psychological strain. In a stress reaction, certain hormones such as adrenalin and cortisol are released into our blood stream, which mostly tend to interfere with the function of digestive system and cardiovascular system. During tress, we may feel a temporary burst of energy and strength, which often misguides us to engage in more stressful situation. Eventually the stress accumulates and turns into chronic stress. Early stage of chronic stress usually can be activated in normal daily activities such as in a bad traffic or during a stressful day of work. When this happens, our autonomic nervous functions are not able to return to normal through a relaxation process. At this point, we begin to see physical symptoms. The first common symptoms are relatively mild, like chronic headaches or increased susceptibility to cold. Lack of good quality of sleep makes stress activated more frequently. With more exposure to chronic stress, more serious health problems may develop, which may include: depression, obsessive-compulsive or anxiety disorder, hair loss, heart diseases, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, sexual dysfunction, tooth and gum diseases, stomach or intestine ulcers, cancers and etc, just name a few.
Stress closely associates with our energy levels. Energy disharmony tends to make our body over-react to certain stressful situation and cause damages in our body systems. Harmonized energy maintains good health.
Harmonized energy comes from a well-balanced nutrition. Our body’s biological reactions are often interdependent with each other. Whole body’s biological reaction is a self-correcting and coordinated process, which means our body decides at what time and what amount of nutrients we need to fulfill the process. Whole complex of nutrients from the nature provides a variety of different ingredients that our body can pick up at right time and right amount, which provides stable and harmonized energy. Chinese Medicine emphasize on whole body’s function to understand our energy system.
Chinese Medicine divides energy into two major categories: daily needed energy and reserved energy, which supposed to support each other. According to Chinese Medicine, nutrition we get from food or diet supplements enter into Stomach Spleen Pancreas system, then it convert into daily needed energy through a generating sequence and controlling sequence interacted in Spleen, Liver and Kidney-adrenal system. Those energy have chance to be converted into reserved energy if we take care of ourselves well. The reserved energy is produced through a balanced network of Kidney-adrenal, Heart and Spleen system, which also have a generating and controlling sequence. If bad nutrition, emotional or physical stress or four seasons’ change that make us to tap into the reserved energy, we start to mess up the harmony that supposed to be maintained in our organ system.
Chinese Medicine values the harmony between human being and the nature. We try to find out what’s happening in the network of internal organ system instead of just looking at one single tissue. After we make a diagnosis based on individual’s constitution, we choose a variety of natural herbs to make a customized formula to help promoting good health or treating certain common diseases, which helps us to bring harmony back to our body naturally. Acupuncture can also facilitates the functional communication between internal organs by balancing chemistry in nervous system and endocrine system, which helps harmonizing whole body system. With thousands years of wisdom, Chinese Medicine doctors are able to help balancing whole body system and promote good health.
